During the course of this class I learned many useful tools to help with advertising and writing. I learned how to better use Social Media to help spread my opinion and views with others as well as spreading general topics to others that I thought was important to me. I also used software programs such as InDesign to further advance my skills. These were all very helpful in helping me further my journalism skills.
Before taking this class I had no use in using social media tools. I viewed them as time consuming and useless ways to avoid studying. After using tools such as Twitter and Tumblr for the past few months I understand how they can be used to share interesting topics and news with others. It is also very helpful in sharing your opinion in subjects that are concerning to you and meeting other people that have the same opinion of you as well as others that don’t have the same opinion. After using Twitter for the past few months I now use it as my main place for all news and current events. My only regret when it comes to using social media the past few months is how little I blogged. I don’t believe I took full advantage of being able to voice all my thoughts. Even though I am now done with the class I will probably continue to use my blog and write about pressing ideas that interest me. I am very indecisive about whether or not to continue using my Twitter. Yes, it is true it makes getting the news really easy and simple but it can become repetitive at times.
When reflecting back on the personal branding projects, advertisement projects and videos, I think they helped me further understand who I am and how I want to present my self to people. I know longer look at an ad without appreciating and understanding the thought process behind it (even though some ads still look like they were put together at random). This process also helped me when it came time to shoot my videos. You have to pay close attention to detail and understand what to put into the video while editing other things out. My first videos are very simplistic when compared to the videos later on and I can see clear progress when watching them from beginning to end. Even with my later videos I still believe there is much progress to make. These tools will prove very useful for me if intend on going into the journalism field.
I believe I am a much better journalist and social media user than prior to taking this class. I was provided with many useful tools to help me excel in the future with whatever career in journalism I choose. I believe this class was and is very beneficial in learning the bare essentials and am very glad I had the opportunity to take it.
